Commonwealth Park

Commonwealth Park is a five-minute walk from Canberra’s city centre, on the north side of Lake Burley Griffin. Developed since the 1960s, it contains play areas, paddling pools, waterfalls, an amphitheatre and a path round the park.

In summer there are weekly performances in the Sunday in the Park program. Annually in March the park is one of the venues of the Canberra Festival. Floriade, Australia’s biggest festival of spring, is held in Commonwealth Park every September/October. It showcases one million flowers in bloom throughout the park and entry is free. The event welcomes more than 400,000 local, interstate and international visitors each year. See website for details.
