George Pentland Botanical Gardens

Home to a large array of Australian native plants, George Pentland Botanic Gardens is a relaxing place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and to see the ever-changing and developing botanic displays. The undulating grassed open space and garden beds create a beautiful environment for community and family group activities.

The Botanical Gardens focus on plants from South Eastern Australia and plant communities from the Mornington Peninsula. Substantial improvement works have been undertaken in recent years to upgrade the gardens. This includes new gate entry signs, plant information signage and Botanical Signage. The botanic collection is being strengthened and leisure facilities are being improved.

The Gardens provide a freely available resource for public environmental education, with emphasis on plants and plant communities which are indigenous to Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula and South Eastern Australia. With pleasant natural surrounds George Pentland Botanic Gardens is also a popular venue for wedding ceremonies and other celebrations. Facilities include childrens playground, five BBQs, picnic tables, car parking, toilets and water.

Originally part of a nine-hole golf course, the site became known as the George Pentland Botanic Gardens in 1975. The gardens were named after former Shire Secretary and Town Clerk of the City of Frankston, George Pentland.
