Spencer

The next township upstream from Brooklyn, Spencer is a sleepy hollow. It is affectionately known as the Hub of The Universe to those who head here on weekends, either by car or boat, to escape the daily grind of the big city. Spencer sits on the northern bank of the Hawkesbury where it is joined by Mangrove Creek.

Though accessible by road, it is here where the locals from neighbouring communities converge to pick up the weekend papers, grab a coffee, enjoy a late breakfast, or sit under the tree at the "Dunkirk Hotel" with a cold drink and catch up on the local news.

Nearby Mangrove Mountain boasts a golf club with bistro lunch which can be combined with a drive to Peats Ridge or Kulnura. orseriding and Bushwalking in the Glenworth Valley is approximately 45 minutes away and offers free range horseriding in this beautiful valley. Bush walks in Dharug National Park are easily accessed from the wiseman's ferry road, with well marked trails. The convict built original road north from Sydney remains in virtually mint original condition from the point it crosses Wisemans Fery and is certainly worth a visit while in the area.

Spencer Markets are also held on each Sunday of a long weekend.

The river around Spencer wanders through virgin bushland - unchanged for 50,000 years - that comes down to the water, with a series of mountains as a backdrop. The light changes radically throughout the day - in the morning, it is purple and lime green, and in the evenings an extraordinary orange that burns on the clouds in the distance.
